Welcome the Brendaanvariart Blog

Hi I'm Brenda,

I create abstract paintings through the process of continuous layering of paint, which forms the basis of all of my work. The application and manipulation of paint over time creates depth and texture from which my colourful contrasts are formed.
By sharing my journey through new paintings, methods, textures and discoveries, I want to open a window into my painting world!

Springtime

A brand new painting, launching today is Soringtime. I started this a while ago, and like a lot of my work I've been pondering over it for quite a few months, trying to figure out that missing element! Often I'm doing something completely different (cleaning the bath!) and it comes into my mind out of the blue! So I continued on with it until I am finally, completely happy and in love with the finished result. Only then will I launch it up on my website. This is a more gentle approach in colour for me, much softer, and to achieve this a lot of the painting is in watercolour. How lovely the effect is on canvas. Still with ink and acrylic too.

Busy working on a new piece!

This new painting is evolving day by day, I seem to add some new mark each time I pass it! I suppose that's how my paintings evolve and the many layers form. At the moment I'm having a bit of a love affair with ink, I love its vibrancy and how it settles on the canvas. I think it won't be long before this painting goes live, so watch this space, and if you want to join the mailing list to be the first to know and get a discount, then just subscribe!

Always work to do!

It isn't always about, mixing colours and seeing how they move, along with soft music in the background, while you get your inspired thoughts together! There's always jobs to do like sealing and varnishing your paintings to protect them from the light, air and pollution, that's what I'm doing today! I'd much rather be painting!

New minimalist painting

I'm not a normal artist, I don't sit down and paint, in fact I always seem to stand! And I always seem to have 2 or 4 paintings on the go! I also paint in drips and drabs, as I pass I'll paint a bit more so I don't have to wait for the paint to dry! Impatient! And also that way I see all the different effects take place!
